Lost Items

I left something on a taxi, bus or train. What now?

Short answer

Contact the ride app, operator or station as soon as you can.

Save the time, route, vehicle or train details and a description of your item. Your hotel front desk can help you explain these details in Korean.

Practical next steps

  1. With an app or receipt, save the trip record and contact the named operator. Without one, write down the approximate time, pickup and drop-off places, payment method and item description.
  2. Choose the contact for the city where the trip happened. Check the police found-item service too; finding the vehicle or recovering the item is not guaranteed.

Where did you leave it?

Choose your ride for the right first contact. Use the contact for your operator. Seoul city services and KORAIL trains have different contacts.

๐Ÿš• Taxi
  1. If you booked through an app, open its trip history and use its lost-item or support option. Save the car plate, pickup and drop-off places, time and trip ID if shown.
  2. If you hailed it on the street, keep your receipt or card-payment record. Note the plate if you saw it.
  3. Ask the app or taxi company first. For a Seoul taxi when you cannot identify the company, call 02-120 and share the details. Ask your hotel to help if the call is difficult.

๐ŸšŒ Bus
  1. Write down the bus route number, direction, date, boarding and exit stops, and approximate times. A vehicle plate or number helps if you have it.
  2. For a Seoul city bus, call 02-120 to find the right operator or lost-property contact. Contact the operator promptly while the bus may still be in service.
  3. For airport, intercity or other regional buses, ask the ticket seller, terminal or bus operator. A route number alone may not identify the company.

Still on the train? Tell train staff. Just got off? Tell the station office immediately. Keep your travel date, train number, carriage, seat and item description ready.

Call KORAIL ยท 1544-7788

This is the general customer center in Korea. Ask your hotel or station staff to help if calling is difficult. Check your ticketโ€™s operator: SRT uses a different service.

๐Ÿš‡ Subway or airport train
  1. Tell the nearest station office immediately. Note the line, travel direction, boarding and exit stations, time, car number or door position, and where the item was left.
  2. For Seoul Metro operated lines 1โ€“8, call 1577-1234. Some sections of the same numbered lines have another operator; station staff can direct you to the correct center.
  3. For the Airport Railroad (AREX), call 1599-7788 (06:30โ€“23:00). Its lost-property center is at Geomam Station. AREX requires collection in person with ID and does not offer courier return; confirm your item and pickup arrangements before going. For KORAIL or another line, ask station staff for its operatorโ€™s lost-and-found contact.

Taxi: no app trip or receipt?

Write down when and where you rode, and describe your item. Ask the local taxi service or police for help; identifying the vehicle may be difficult.

What to do without a trip record
  1. Save the date, approximate pickup and drop-off places, time and item description.
  2. Ask the local taxi association or city service for the right contact. For Seoul, call 02-120. In Busan, use the cityโ€™s corporate and private taxi lost-property contacts โ†—. Seoulโ€™s number is not the contact for Busan.
  3. If you cannot identify the vehicle, ask local police for help with the information you have. Your hotel can help explain the details.
  4. Already abroad? Contact the local operator or police remotely, and search police found items โ†—. Identification and overseas return are not guaranteed.

If it has not turned up

Search found items on the Korean policeโ€™s Police Civil Service 24 portal. In Seoul, also check the cityโ€™s public transport lost-property list. Items may be registered after the vehicle finishes its run, so check again later.

The police portal opens in Korean and has a Language menu: โ€œ์Šต๋“๋ฌผ ๊ฒ€์ƒ‰โ€ means search found items. Online reporting may require sign-in; you can ask at a police station instead.

Important cautions
  • If a card is missing, freeze it through your bank. For a missing passport, use our passport guide immediately.
  • Only share payment details with the official operator or bank. KoreaClear does not collect your card number or trip ID.
  • For help explaining the situation in English in Seoul, call 02-731-2120 between 09:00 and 18:00 for foreign-language assistance, or ask your hotel front desk. The city says 02-120 can connect to English by pressing 9 then 1.
