Can I take a power bank on a plane from Korea? (new rules from April 2026)

Short answer

Only in your carry-on, up to 2 per person, each 160 Wh or less. 100โ€“160 Wh needs airline approval. Since 20 April 2026, charging the power bank and charging devices from it on board are both banned. Power banks cannot go in checked baggage.

What to do
  1. Check the Wh rating printed on your power bank.
  2. Pack it in your carry-on, not your checked bag โ€” at most 2 per person.
  3. If it is between 100 and 160 Wh, get approval from your airline before you fly.
  4. Tape over the terminals, and don't use it to charge anything during the flight.

If that doesn't work

  • Not sure of the Wh rating? Ask your airline before you fly.
  • Over the limit at security? You may have to leave it behind.
Check before relying on this
  • Over 160 Wh: not allowed at all.
  • E-cigarettes are carry-on only; e-liquid 100 ml or less.
  • Airlines may add their own rules; check before you fly.
