What documents do I need to buy and activate a Korean SIM?
Short answer
Tourist SIM paperwork depends on the product: data-only delivery and Korean voice-number activation can require different checks. Buy in the traveller’s own identity and follow the actual seller’s passport/entry-verification instructions.
What to do
- Identify the seller and exact data-only or voice product.
- Ask which original documents and in-person checks are required.
- Complete activation and test the required features through that seller’s support.
Check before relying on this
- Do not assume every reseller uses the same checks as SKT, KT or LG U+.
- Receiving an SMS code is different from Korean real-name identity verification. A tourist SIM or 010 number does not guarantee access to banking, government or every booking app.
