How much travel money should I budget, and how much should I carry in cash?

Short answer

There is no official daily figure for meals and lodging, so add up your own bookings. For transport in Seoul you can use official prices: a Climate Card short-term pass costs ₩5,000 for 1 day up to ₩20,000 for 7 days, plus ₩3,000 for the card. Keep some won in cash as a backup.

What to do
  1. Add accommodation still due, intercity travel, meals, attractions and shopping for each traveller.
  2. Mark expenses that need cash and plan a modest first withdrawal or exchange.
  3. Keep emergency access to money separately and review spending during the trip.

If that doesn't work

  • If you run short of cash, withdraw won at an ATM that shows “Global” or your card network’s logo.
Check before relying on this
  • Do not carry the whole budget in one wallet or treat an illustrative budget as a price guarantee.
