What do Jeju folk villages and museums offer?
Short answer
Jeju Folk Village is an open-air traditional-culture museum; Seongeup is a living heritage village. Choose the Folklore and Natural History Museum for exhibits on Jeju life and nature, or the Teddy Bear Museum for a themed collection rather than island history.
What to do
- For Jeju history and everyday life, visit the Folklore and Natural History Museum at 40 Samseong-ro, Jeju City. KTO lists 09:00–18:00, closed Mondays, New Year’s Day and the day/day after Seollal and Chuseok.
- Suggested time allowance: reserve about 1–2 hours for the Folklore and Natural History Museum, adjusting for your interest in its folklore, natural history, marine exhibits and interactive displays. This is a planning allowance, not an official minimum.
- Choose Jeju Folk Village if you want a curated open-air collection of traditional settings; choose Seongeup if you want to walk through an inhabited village. Respect private homes and residents.
- For the Teddy Bear Museum, consider it if you enjoy teddy-bear collections and themed displays. It has two galleries, a shop/cafe and a garden with a Jungmun Beach view. If your priority is Jeju history, choose the folklore museum instead.
Check before relying on this
- Choose the specific village or museum for the experience you want; similarly named places are not interchangeable.
