Do I need a visa to change planes in Korea?
Short answer
If your connection stays airside without Korean immigration clearance, Korean entry documents generally are not required; ordinary passports of Egypt, Sudan, Syria and Yemen are exceptions requiring a direct-airside transit visa. If you collect baggage landside, change airports or take a domestic flight, establish permission to enter Korea first.
What to do
- Ask both airlines whether baggage is checked through and whether the onward boarding pass can be issued airside.
- Confirm the exact airport, terminal, connection duration and any overnight transit-area restriction.
- If you must enter Korea, establish a visa or applicable visa-free/transit exception before departure.
Check before relying on this
- A ticket labelled ātransitā is not proof that entry permission is unnecessary.
- A Japanese visa does not settle the Indian-passport JapanāKoreaāVladivostok case; neither does Russian destination eligibility.

More detail
For a genuinely airside international connection, the key operational checks are the airlinesā transfer handling and airport transit facilities. Daegu, Busan and Incheon are not interchangeable, and 17/22-hour connections need the actual onward flight arrangements.
Specific conditions
This airside distinction applies to the Indian, Chinese, Philippine, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and Nepali passport questions. For IndiaāJapanāKoreaāVladivostok, verify each country separately. Daegu/Busan connections and long overnight stops still need the operating airlines to confirm an actual airside transfer is possible; a short timetable is not proof.
