How can I visit the DMZ, and can I go to Panmunjom (JSA)?

Short answer

The easiest official option is Paju City's DMZ Peace Tour from Imjingak (it includes the 3rd Tunnel). Book on the official site dmz.paju.go.kr (English menu at the top right) or buy at Imjingak, and bring your original passport. Panmunjom (JSA) visits have been suspended since 18 July 2023.

What to do
  1. Pick a day: the Paju DMZ Peace Tour is closed on Mondays, on public holidays that fall on weekdays, and on Seollal and Chuseok days.
  2. Book on the official site dmz.paju.go.kr (switch to English at the top right) or buy at Imjingak. On-site tickets are sold 9:00–14:30 and often sell out early.
  3. Bring your original passport. Copies, photos and screenshots are not accepted, and a passport past your permitted stay is refused.
  4. Your whole group must be at Imjingak before tickets can be issued. Children need an adult with them.
  5. Or join a tour run by a travel agency from Seoul; agencies arrange the transport and a guide.

If that doesn't work

  • The Paju tour has no guide of its own. If you want explanations in your language, go with a tour agency or bring your own guide.
Check before relying on this
  • Photos and video, including drones, are banned on the tour course.
  • Tours can be cancelled without notice because of security or weather, even if you booked.
  • Entry to the 3rd Tunnel can be refused for people with limited mobility, heart or breathing conditions, or who have been drinking.
